CITIZENS COLLEGES (CITICOLL)
African Citizens development Foundation (ACDF), on the path of its mission to fulfil its vision towards “building a cultured society” established the Citizens Comprehensive College (CITICOLL) on the 12th of October 1997, as a “tuition free” co-educational secondary school to offer qualitative secondary education to eligible African children irrespective of social class. The free tuition policy of the ACDF is the Foundation’s stake in the development of its future Development Partners who are expected to take a major role in future for the global development challenges of the continent towards fulfilling the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the International Agreed Development Goals (IADGs).
The college is a component of the ACDF Youth Development Programme, aimed at catching and moulding young the future incorruptible African leaders who will be strong enough to face the global development challenges of the continent. All students enrolled at Citizens Colleges are registered as student members and inducted as Life-Members at graduation. The Foundation remains stakeholder and accepts high responsibility in the general development of these youths even after their graduation from the colleges and as working adults. The Foundation has inducted a total number of 418 graduands (as at July 2008) from the last seven years.
Citizens’ Colleges are government approved secondary institutions with the pioneering unit in Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria. Currently, the colleges which are in three units are located in Nigeria and the Republic of Benin. The Porto-Novo unit of the college is designed for French Language Development (FLD) as a tool for international communication and connections while the Ogba unit of the colleges is for junior classes to offer opportunities for children who cannot cope with the rigour of an early boarding-school setting. The three units are designated as Citicoll Schools I, II and III respectively.
CITICOLL is one of the major promoters of French Language in Nigeria and the largest at post primary school level.
