Why Citizens College?

Citizens College was conceived out of the need to develop African citizens in order to build a cultured society in Africa and so, it was a strategy to capture the young early and mould them well and prepare them as brand new citizens that will form the foundation of a new cultured society in Africa. Therefore, the College is meant for the citizens, it is for citizens’ development and it is Citizens’ College.

Who founded the College?

Citizens College (CITICOLL) was founded by the African Citizens Development Foundation (ACDF) as its very first project and, the very first of the colleges: the Citizens Comprehensive College was established on the 12th of October 1997 at Temu – Epe, a suburb of Lagos State. What kind of Education are the Citizens Colleges providing?

Citizens Colleges provides “tuition free” qualitative secondary education to eligible African children irrespective of social class or cultural differences. It is a co-educational and fully boarding except for the School three in Ogba Ikeja that provide junior Secondary classes for those students whose parents are not comfortable with they being in the hostel so early or for health reasons but, such students must be returned to the boarding school for their senior secondary education in line with the Foundation policy.

Does ACDF Tuition Free policy mean your Colleges are totally free?

Tuition is one of several fees paid in the educational system, it represents: costs of providing classrooms, laboratories, libraries and other educational learning aid. This is all ACDF provide the students at the Citizens Colleges. Students pay all other fees including: feeding and boarding fees, special programmes fee and other consumables expenses.

Why the Tuition Free Policy by ACDF?

African Citizens Development Foundation is sourcing its membership from the African Youths who passed through its colleges and they will be inducted Life-Members at graduation and hoped for being the future Development Partners (DPs) of the Foundation. As the Foundation commitment to this relationship is the tuition free, this is its stake in the development of these future Development Partners in the development of the African Continent. Beyond the tuition free initiative, the Foundation remain stakeholder in the development of its Life-Members even after leaving the college, in tertiary institutions and as working adult. The Foundation will offer possible assistance to its members while seeking admissions to Tertiary institutions and while searching for quality jobs as fully developed and working adult. Children/wards of our Life-Members and Development Partners that comes into our colleges will have minimum of 20% discount

Why do Citicoll Students appears in different shade of Uniforms?

It is because Citicoll programmes are stream based, it, therefore, makes control become easier and facilitate identification. It also enhances monitoring and effective planning.

Why Emphasis on French Language?

French Language is compulsory at Citicoll to actualize the ACDF objective of producing multilingual secondary school graduates. French language is considered priority in view of our location within the West African sub-region and the prominence of the French language. We have chosen the French Language as the second international language for communication and connections. Students’ appetite is being inspired towards learning other international languages aside the French, such as: Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Japanese. Citicoll today is the largest promoter of French language at secondary school level in Nigeria.

What prompted the choice of Temu- Epe location?

The serenity and peacefulness of the environment which makes learning more conducive for the children, Temu-Epe location is also so direct for the parents to visit their children/wards given the network of roads, especially the Epe-Lekki Expressway.

Why Grocery, Provisions and Cash is out-lawed in the College

Absence of grocery provision and cash at the Citizens Colleges, reduces bullying to an insignificant level, promote peaceful co-existence amongst students, creating balance and reducing cultism tendencies in the college which often is the point where the foundation is laid for practices later at the nation’s tertiary institutions.

What does Mixed-Age Study Group (MAG) means and what does it stands to achieve?

Mixed-Age study Group curriculum focuses on contemporary studies, Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Students of different ages across classes meet and study everyday together. There are twelve (12) Mixed-Age study Groups (MAG) in all our three colleges and this promotes excellence performance at Citizens Colleges.

How reliable is your school six (6) year programme?

6-years programme is reliable because it gives focus to both the students and teachers from day one. It provides an academic map for the journey ahead.

How many Teachers do the college has in the whole schools?

The school presently have forty-five professional teachers. More teachers are recruited as the need arises.

Are Citicoll Teachers professionals?

All teachers in the college are trained and certificated teachers with a minimum of Bachelors Degree in Education or equivalent.

How do you improve on your Teachers’ capacities?

There is provision for regular staff development both in the school and outside

What is the Students/Teacher ratio?

The ratio is 1:10

How do you guarantee job security for the teachers at Citicoll?

The welfare package aside salaries give room for long service allowances and opportunity to grow on the job.

How do you control the movement of Teachers in your college?
  The Foundation will always make efforts to improve the status of its staff from time-to-time to reduce the movement of staff.  Currently we provide several incentives such as: pension scheme, retirement benefit, 13th month pay, birthday cash gift, promotion, recognition awards, staff training and development, breakfast and lunch incentive, scholarship for staff children, etc.  As a third sector organisation we hope to open up opportunity for our teachers to enjoy international development training and capacity building
 
typWhat e of exams do you write in your schools?

Currently, we write the SSCE by WAEC (West African Examination Council) and NECO (National Examination Council) as well as the French Diploma Exams. Arrangements are on to start the IGCSE O/L

How do you control Examination Malpractices at the Citizens Colleges?

This is core to ideas and principles of the founder (ACDF) we are out to produce incorruptible citizenry and it starts right from our school. Any student caught for exam malpractice is summarily dismissed.
